Michigan Hematology Oncology treats many types of cancers including advanced stage and complex cancers. The medical oncology services you receive at MHO are provided by a team that consists of medical oncologists and oncology-trained nursing staff. This team plays a major role in your cancer care. They manage your treatment plans and therapies, monitor and evaluate your progress, and collaborate on your best options with your other medical caregivers. Every cancer is different and so is every patient. At MHO, we customize a treatment plan to suit your diagnosis. The treatment plan can include both investigative and standard of care therapy for patients with oncologic diseases. We offer medical guidance, helping you make decisions along the way. And we also connect you and your family with the best supportive services for educational, emotional, and financial challenges you may face. Please contact us with any questions or to set an appointment to discuss the treatment options we provide specific to your case. |
Hematology is the study of blood, the blood-forming organs, and blood diseases that affect the production of blood and its components. Hematology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that is separate from but does overlap with medical oncology. At Michigan Hematology Oncology, we treat patients with a wide variety of blood disorders including anemias, increases and decreases in cell counts, hematological malignancies such as lymphoma and leukemias, and coagulopathies among others. Our treatment plans may include chemotherapy, various pharmacological therapies, nutritional counseling, anticoagulation therapy, transfusions, radiation and bone marrow transplants. Many times, a combination of these treatment therapies are used. |

Cancer research is a constantly evolving field, with new drugs and treatments being discovered and tested for their effectiveness in fighting cancer. During clinical trials, specific treatments are carefully analyzed for their effect on a specific cancer, as well as their safety of use in an effort to establish new, effective treatments. Michigan Hematology Oncology is dedicated to finding new and more effective treatments for cancer through clinical research. Our patients can benefit from clinical trials of state of the art cancer treatments. MHO participates in a variety of clinical trials offered through the National Cancer Institute, the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) and pharmaceutical companies. |
At Michigan Hematology Oncology, we are dedicated to promoting the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being of our patients, their families and caregivers. MHO founder, Farid Fata, M.D., after many years of working with cancer patients, realized that medicine was only one piece of the oncology puzzle. He observed that when other resources such as education, community support, a plan of action and integrative medicine options were available, patients found it easier to face the challenges that come with any cancer. In partnership, Michigan Hematology Oncology and the Swan for Life Cancer Foundation are proud to offer all cancer patients the following Wellness services:
